My name is Justyna. I had been suffering from chronic back pain that eventually became unbearable. After several visits to multiple doctors, I found rescue in multiple pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications without much hope for permanently fixing my condition. One day I was rushing to work, as usual, when I tried to bend over to pick up my purse from the floor. Words cannot describe the excruciating pain that I felt at the moment. I tried to crawl to bed while crying from pain. I was all alone and I couldn't move for 2 days. I wasn't able to get up from bed, not even to go to the restroom. I felt so helpless. On the third day, the ambulance came and took me to the local hospital where I stayed for seven long days. After all possible testing, the doctors still could not find the cause for the pain. On the seventh day, I was given steroid shots and pain killers and I was discharged from the hospital. I was told that there was nothing else they could do for me and my last hope was to get in touch with the Medical University Center.
I came back home (still in pain) and I felt broken physically and mentally. I could only move around using a walker. I started thinking that active life would never be a possibility for me. I stopped believing that I could ever regain my form. Even the most basic tasks caused me an unbelievable amount of pain. I lost my job because I wasn't able to come into work for weeks.
One day, I got a visit from my daughter who lives in Indianapolis. Even though she is only 23, she also suffered from chronic back pain. Somebody recommended that she talked to Dr. Todd McDougle assuring her of his knowledge and experience. After the first visit, she was shocked with his level of professionalism, knowledge, experience as well as the time and care Dr. McDougle invested in diagnosing the problem. She informed me that the appointment for me was already scheduled. I was very skeptical at first and unsure about conquering the distance from Chicago to Indianapolis.
When I got to his office, Dr. McDougle was already anticipating my arrival. We spent over 2 hours on detailed examination and analysis. He patiently explained to me the cause for my pain and what needs to be done to fix it. He used his innovative method during the very first visit to relieve a significant portion of my pain. Dr. McDougle used all of his skills, knowledge and experience and treated me like a human being who was in need of his help, not like just another patient.
Thanks to his knowledge, experience and dedication, I got a new job and returned to my regular daily activities. He gave me hope and faith in a better tomorrow. Thanks to Dr. McDougle I regained the appreciation for life and its beauty. For some time, I will have to continue my visits and conquer the Chicago - Indianapolis distance but the value of those visits is absolutely priceless. I am very thankful that God put Dr. McDougle in my path and gave me a second shot at life without pain.

Working with Dr. Todd McDougle for these past few months has really improved my overall body balance and alignment. As a collegiate athlete it is common to experience small injuries that may feel like they haven’t healed perfectly over the years. Learning about my own deficits from Dr. McDougle has really helped me understand the dynamics of the human body and how my performance is affected. In general, if an athlete experiences a smaller injury such as a broken or sprained toe, it can change how you walk if it doesn’t heal properly. When this occurs, it can cause ankle problems starting at the toe, leading on to knee and hip misalignment, and eventually even spine problems. Throughout my career I've developed smaller injuries that eventually were treated by doing “rehabilitation exercises”. While the sprains and smaller injuries healed they led to other smaller misalignment of my other joints. After some time misaligned joints become unnoticeable and can lead to permanent damage.
At first I was somewhat skeptical that a Chiropractor could help my shoulder and knee pain. The first time I went to see Dr. McDougle I had an evaluation which consisted of x-rays and overall body balance tests. After the evaluation I personally saw the x-rays with a noticeable offset of my hips. From then on I decided to make it to see a Dr. McDougle at least once every week or two. Just over the summer months I have noticed more smoothness in my running and agility. I have actually increased my forty speed by a whole tenth of a second. My power has also improved in my arms and shoulders! Before I went in to Dr McDougle I had no idea my body was off. Now if my hips or any other joints are not in place I can notice immediately.
Dr. McDougle has been very helpful with working around my schedule so I can drive the three hours from Illinois to go see him. I would recommend that everyone get evaluated by a good Chiropractor by getting a basic evaluation to see if there are any offset parts in their body. Getting checked out earlier than later is essential to fix small misalignments before they turn into more serious conditions requiring surgeries.
