What is Health ?Dr. Todd McDougle | Tuesday, June 29th, 2010 | No Comments »
What is Health? Have you really contemplated its meaning? When you lie in a hospital bed and you can’t walk or care for yourself, is that when we as a species tend to finally understand? I know that’s when it hit me for the first time.
I was 22 years old and saw it all about to end for what I thought was my future at the time. I was told that my arm may have to be separated from my body and I was going to be on disability for the rest of my life! What kind of future was that?
It makes me crazy to see others that are obviously healthy attempting to do all they can to become disabled in order to get free money. How sad is that? If I gave in to the temptation to be a Government Dependent rather than to go to the gym and change my entire direction – who would I have helped? Not one person! Not even myself!
As a Chiropractic Doctor I see the same thing happen in yet another way. The person comes in so serious about their condition then when they feel less pain, they’re gone. It’s sad, because as a Doctor, you think that the patient understands the significance of their situation and that which is needed to make a difference and the time table that the human body must operate within to actually make a physiological change. So often, it’s a scenario where people think they’re alright because the symptoms dissipate which often is accelerated by the use of pain pills and muscle relaxers. The end result over time is what I call bone rot!
Bone rot, aka osteodegeneration makes the pharmaceutical and hospital industries in excess of $65 Million Dollars a year [ 5 year old statistic]. As time progresses, can anyone honestly say that they think the amount spent is less at this point and time?
What is the job of a Doctor these days? I find myself asking this question so often…
