McDougle Chiropractic Methods
Dr. McDougle’s Concept of Adjusting:
For more than a decade, Dr. Todd A. McDougle (Palmer 1997) has been the “mechanic” of many International, National, State and Local Athletic Champions. In the late 90’s, Dr. McDougle at the request of Chad Coy; an International World Strongest Man Champion, developed a technique that would allow the athlete to receive an adjustment that was not only effective, but also reduced the feeling of being “sprung”. This proprietary technique does not contribute to strength loss from hyper-stimulation of the muscle stretch receptors as seen with the traditional side posture maneuvers – a standard in Chiropractic Treatment procedures.
Dr. McDougle’s dynamic pelvic adjustment allows for the athlete to go back into the field of competition immediately afterward and perform at Championship levels. Several have become champions after the adjustment when just moments before, an injury made it appear that the contest was over for them.
Testimonials from several of our Technique Recipients have honored this Protocol by exceeding their previous personal bests with records both State and Nationally.
Pelvic Dysfunction:
The core difference between this technique and other Chiropractic methods stems from the misconception that the PI and / or AS pelvic misalignment are primary in the pelvic dysfunction. Now occasionally they are, but typically they are not when the two exist simultaneously. Use of this Multi-Release Technique may allow for multiple pieces of the pelvic puzzle to dissolve with one application (in most cases). This reduces stress to the patient without the patient leaving with a feeling of being “sprung” as with traditional methods and reduces the risk of shoulder injury to the doctor. Dr. McDougle has also developed a series of protocols for the Cervical spine as well with stellar results!
Basic Rules:
Assessment measures:
The assessment must be completed the same way every time. Granted there may need to be adjustments based upon patient need and doctor interpretation. Clearly, we are not telling the reader how to be a Doctor of Chiropractic.
The method should be consistently used the same way each time for effectiveness and to aid in the teaching of this technique. Variation has shown to be less effective in the processing of the patient in clinical trials. The results are produced by reducing the layers of dysfunction in a particular order to reorganize a patient’s dysfunction and deviation from Dr. McDougle’s protocols does change the outcome.
Outcomes:
Dr. McDougle has seen his technique result in the making of Championship performances. The technique which was developed for the Amateur and World Class Strongmen was then refined to be applied to even the Weekend Warrior! Some results are as follows:
- In 2009, 2nd place was taken in the 800 meter in High School Track by a Junior at Pendleton after shaving 2 full seconds off his Personal best.
- In 2009, 1st place was just missed by a Hamilton Heights Junior in the 50 meter Sprint.. Zach was thrilled!
- In 2009, Mikey J., a Noblesville High Graduate, hit the goal of 6’11″ this past Summer. He had had a H.S. personal best of 6’10′ in 2008 as a Senior even after fracturing his ankles while playing basketball. He also noted the ability to do a 360 dunk after treatment!
- In 2008, Caitlynn Mc. of Pendleton noted that she was not getting tagged as often when she ran bases in Girls H.S. Softball. When timed between bases, it was discovered that she reduced her time by 1 full second!
- In 2007, the #1 and #2 Girls Indiana State Gymnastic Champions were both his patients. This resulted in 2 very fine athletes going to College on Scholarships.
- In 2002, a you man named Clay went from a 6’4″ High Jump to 6’10″ within a month of treatment. This was even following a car accident had caused him injury!
- 1999 to 2002, Dr. McDougle delivered treatments to many professional and amateur Strongmen resulting in enhanced strength and stamina while they accomplished their feats of power. Many had gone on to either win their category for that date of competition or moved on to the Professional Ranks. Chad Coy has been an advocate of Dr. McDougle’s for years due to the direct results in Athletic Performance following a treatment!
More to come as the opportunity to make a difference through this technique occurs. Now that we have only 2 other Doctors of Chiropractic in the entire Country [besides Dr. McDougle] using his methods, our hope is to hear of the impact that this technique has on their patient’s / athlete’s performance as well!
Dr. McDougle has had post-graduate training in Sports Medicine through the Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician program.
